Found Any Decent Small Group Material Lately?
Oh yeah, it’s easy to find something to fill a slot.
But what about one that actually grows people and moves your church to greater health?
Exactly. Not a lot out there.
I can relate.
As a pastor for more than 20 years, with a heart to see my people grow and my church made healthy, I’ve gotten tired of sawdust filled studies that are “plug and play,” maybe interesting, occasionally even Bible-based (!) but which do not contribute to the great purpose of making disciples.
Making Disciples:
• The Purpose of Every Biblical Church
• The Basic Job Description of Every Pastor
• The Call on Every Follower of Jesus Christ
But it’s kinda hard to “make a disciple” when you’ve never identified what exactly a disciple is, what they look like, and who they are at their core.
And until we have that target clearly in mind, how do we even know what our people need to study and where they need to grow?
That’s why I did this project.
That’s why I have been teaching this stuff for 15 years.
And that’s why I finally wrote the book.
I needed CLARITY in my own mind and in the minds of my leaders and my people exactly who we are called to be, in character. But I needed these traits to be concrete and easy us to understand and apply in our own lives. The result:

One Simple Book
Our Small Groups Page has free downloadable pdf’s to help your small group leaders plan their lessons. There’s also a brief video “prep talk” tied to the lessons for those leaders to view to make sure they understand the priorities of each lesson.
It’s what I’ve always wanted for my small groups but could never find.
(*Note: My assumption is that your small group leaders have some teaching ability;
I’m not member of the “Anyone can lead a small group if they can play a DVD” club.)
But it’s still easy…
Simply get each member or couple in your small group a book; those who prefer can even get one from Amazon for their Kindle. Then point your leader to the Small Groups page and you are set.
This study will give your people a common language, a common experience and a shared understanding of what it means to BE a disciple, and some strong hints of what is required to MAKE a disciple.
Will you join me in getting people off the hamster wheel of too much information and not enough application, too much teaching and not enough following Jesus?

P.S.: If you are a pastor, you might want to get your own copy and read Chapters 1, 2, and 11 before you make a final decision. Because once your people have it in their heads what a disciple IS they will expect your church to have a PLAN for making disciples. Which is a good thing. But you and I both know it is a rare thing, and it might call for some changes in budget, staffing and programs.
Which could get uncomfortable.
But it could also get very exciting…
